The Truth About MLM Lead Generation
MLM Lead generation is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the MLM promotion arena. There are so many different ways to generate new leads, but some of them are much more effective than others. If you’re already involved with an MLM you might have been told by your downline to write a list of ALL the people you know and talk to them about your opportunity.
Did it work? probably not! If you’ve read my MLM marketing system you’ll know why!
‘Old Style’ Lead Generation Methods
- ‘Pitching’ your opportunity to family, friends, colleagues and basically anyone that would issue to join me
- Purchasing MLM leads from various companies who all promise the best, freshest leads
- Organising endless in home presentations and events
Do they work? Yes and No
Using these methods you’ll probably sign up a few distributors, but considering how much time and money you’ll spend, they are not the most effective MLM lead generation methods to use. You’ll also probably find that the distributors you did manage to sign-up were not in business or looking to start a business, you convinced them to get on board and most of them will probably try to get out very quickly.

‘New Style’ MLM Lead Generation Methods
Hopefully you’re reading this because you’ve already realised you’re not going make much money by targeting the wrong people and want to look at other ways to generate quality, qualified leads. Unlike some online network marketing experts, I do still believe offline lead generation works, however the internet is probably the easiest and quickest place to get started.
Most people now go to the internet first when they are looking for a network marketing opportunity. They use Google and social media sites to research business opportunities, read reviews and find out information about MLM marketing in general.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to generate organic traffic- PPC and Google Adwords
- Article Marketing
- Social Media Marketing
- Video Marketing
- Email list buying
- Banner Advertising

To generate online leads I focus on SEO (this website is number 1 for my competitive MLM marketing keywords), social media traffic (mostly twitter, facebook and social bookmarking sites) and article marketing (submitting articles to directories like Ezine Articles). Don’t forget ‘Attraction Marketing’
Its not just about choosing the right lead generation method, you also need to consider what you are going to do with your lead. If you jump straight in and pitch your business opportunity you’ll just end up in the basket with the hundreds of others who have already told that prospect they have the best opportunity in the world. The only way for you to stand out in a competitive market is to make YOU to the brand and use Attraction Marketing techniques.
Allow them to build trust in you. If they see you as an expert in your field and someone they feel they can invest their time, energy and money with then they will be receptive to your ‘pitch’. If you start with the pitch you’ll get lost in the crowd.
Remember these are people who are actually looking to find a new MLM opportunity and you are giving them an answer. Your strike rate with these people is going to be far higher than Uncle Sam and your Dad’s mate.
Get a hook
You need something that is valuable to your target market, something you can give to them in return for capturing their email address and contact details. This could be a video, email series, private coaching. Anything that your prospect will be interested in receiving in return for handing over their particulars. Now you’ve got them hooked, you can follow up and eventually once you have gained their trust its time to tell them about your opportunity…if they haven’t already contacted you about it first! That’s the power of attraction marketing.
